Prerequisite: Metalsmithing 1
Have you ever wanted to add gold to a piece of jewelry? In this workshop students will learn how to fuse gold to sterling silver to make Bi-Metal. Students will fuse 22k and 18ky gold onto sterling silver using a torch. Earrings will be created from the Bi-metal. Students will also learn how to make posts for earrings, french wires and earrings with a hinge element.
MATERIALS KIT FEE: $65 plus the cost of Gold ($130–$160 based on how much the student uses)
The Materials Kit is in addition to tuition and is payable to the instructor. Kit includes : Sterling silver, cutoff wheel & mandrel, tools, detailed handouts along with other materials and tools needed to make their project.
MATERIALS & TOOLS
Students are responsible for bringing the following tools & materials
- 14ga round wire, 6 inches
- 20ga round wire, 14 inches
- Silver Solder in Hard, Medium and Easy
- Cash or check for materials kit*
- Solder pick
- Jewelry metal files (suggested files below, bring what you have)
- coarse (I like #00 flat or Habilis/Half-Round)
- medium (I like #2 flat)
- fine (I like #4 flat-Half round)
- needle files (my go to is #3 and #5 flat-Half-round)
- Sanding sticks (320 grit, 400 grit)
- Jewelry Saw, 2/0 Blades and wax
- Safety glasses
- Caliper

- Loop 10x or optiviser
