Enameling has been a technique used by artists for centuries and is seen as a great way to add vibrant pops of color to metal jewelry. It is a unique canvas for the metalsmith and jewelry designer to let their creativity run wild. It opens up new designs, treatments, and color that bring a new perspective to the piece. Enamel can allow metalsmiths to create a work of art that shows off both the artistry of the designer, and the beauty of the individual wearing the piece. 
 
In Enamel 1, you will learn the basics of working with glass enamel, including why and how to clean the enamels; how to sift and wet-pack enamel; how to use stencils to create interesting patterns; how to use a kiln; and specifically, how to determine when the enamel is fired to the correct temperature; as well as other tips and tricks. You are encouraged to ask questions throughout the workshop and will have plenty of time to practice the techniques covered. The tuition price includes your kit fee. 
 
MATERIALS & TOOLS
Bring the following items: 
6x6" 20 ga copper sheet
pre-cut (loose) copper shapes
a particulate mask
a notebook and pen/pencil
 
Everything else will be provided by the studio. The cost of these supplies is already included in your tuition.
