Prerequisite: Metalsmithing 1
Curious about building your skills and learning to solder a large piece of jewelry? In this class you will learn wire soldering techniques while creating a wide cuff (1 ½”) out of sterling silver with rails to thicken the edge. We'll give you a foundation for fabricating—future embellishments are up to you.
MATERIALS KIT FEE: $40
The Materials Kit is in addition to tuition and is payable to the instructor. Kit includes : Flexshaft cleanup tools, handouts and other materials needed to complete project.
MATERIALS & TOOLS
Students are responsible for bringing the following tools & materials
- Any jewelry tools you currently have in your toolbox
- 2x6" strip Sterling silver sheet, 20ga
- 14 or 16 ga Sterling Silver Round wire (16" minimum)
- 20ga Silver Wire solder, Hard, 20" minimum (Rio 101704)
- Soldering Pick
- jewelry metal files
— coarse (instructor likes #00 flat)
— medium (instructor likes #2 flat)
— fine (instructor likes I like #4 flat-1/2 round)
- Jewelry saw and blades (I like 2/0)
- Flex shaft tools for cleaning jewelry
- Flat nose pliers
- Needle nose pliers
- Safety glasses
