Prerequisite: Metalsmithing 1
Ignite your imagination with color, shape, and design! This workshop will take you through the steps of designing a unique ring with two matching or complementary stones with what's known as an open shank (ringband). Additional types of ring bands such as bypass, split, etc. will be discussed and examples will be shown during the course of the workshop.
MATERIALS & TOOL LIST
Bring your metalsmithing toolbox, plus the following:
- 2x3" 20ga Sterling Silver sheet
- 6" of Sterling Silver Low-Dome Wire #3 (Rio Grande #100703)
- Any heavy-gauge round or square wire that you may already have to explore more options
- 2 or more cabochons that are dime sized or smaller, any shape, no sharp corners
- 1 ft plain 26ga (0.16") Fine Silver bezel strip in height(s) to match your stones
- Silver Solder Wire, 20ga or 22ga in H, M, E and XE
- Jeweler’s saw frame
- 2/0 saw blades and wax/blade lube
- Round nose pliers
- Chain nose pliers
- Wire cutting pliers
- 14mm Wrap and Tap pliers (Otto Frei #146.392)
- Nylon jaw flat nose pliers
- Bezel rocker
- Sandpaper/Sanding sticks in 220, 320, 400 & 600 grits
- 3M Radial Bristle Discs in Blue, Peach & Green and mandrels
- Dedeco Silicone Polishing Wheel assortment (Rio Grande # 332579) and mandrels
- Metal jeweler’s ruler
- Half-round Habilis file, cut 00
- N95 or KN95 mask
- Ultra-Fine Sharpie marker
- Note taking materials
