Prerequisite: Metalsmithing 1 or equivalent
 
Stacking rings are a trend that continues to remain a constant in the fashion world. They can be worn in a variety of different ways and allow you to tailor the trend to fit your own personal style. Either stack a half dozen rings together or stick to an understated two, it’s up to you! 
Stacking rings are great sellers at shows and make fantastic gifts for all occasions. In this workshop, you will learn basic ring making techniques, as well as how to texture, twist and measure to create unique and delicate ring bands. You will also learn how to work with small cabochons and pre-made bezel cups to add a delicate stone accent to your stacked set of rings. The majority of this workshop will be spent allowing you to experiment and create rings, so bring plenty of stones and wire to play with. The more rings you can create the better! 
 
MATERIALS & TOOLS
Bring your Metalsmithing toolbox, including the following items: 
6" or more 14 or 16 ga sterling silver round wire
6" or more Sterling silver and/or copper wires of choice between 12–18 ga (half-round, square, triangle and/or pattered wire recommended. Rio Grande and Santa Fe Jewelers Supply sell a variety of shapes and gauges)
1 or more 4 mm round cabochon of your choice (Rio Grande and Santa Fe Jewelers Supply have lots to choose from)
1 or more 4 mm sterling silver round bezel cup setting (Rio Grande)
Flat needle file
Jeweler’s saw frame
2/0 saw blades
Bees wax
Metal jeweler’s ruler
Bezel roller
4 Sanding sticks with sandpapers (220, 320, 400, 600 grit)
6" each Extra easy, easy, medium, and hard wire solders
Black abrasive flat edge wheel (Dedeco makes these)
Black abrasive knife edge wheel (Dedeco makes these)
2 Mandrels for abrasive wheels
Protective eyewear
Face mask or 3M particulate respirator (N95, P95 or better)

14mm looping pliers (also called Wrap n Tap pliers, made by Eurotool)
Brass texture plate (Santa Fe Jewelers Supply has many to choose from)
Locking vise grips (if you want to twist wire)
