In this mini-series course, participants will learn to fabricate a lovely ball-end ring from scratch. These rings are adjustable in size and shape, allowing them to appeal to a wider range of potential customers (or gift-receivers!). You'll learn some invaluable tricks with the 3rd hand, and learn to clean up your sterling ball-ends. 

 

MATERIALS & TOOLS

Bring your Metalsmithing toolbox, including the following items: 

  • 14-18 gauge Sterling silver wire (round wire is great for practice, but any shape can be used). *A small selection of silver wire will be available for purchase*
  • Jeweler’s Saw frame
  • 2/0 saw blades and wax/blade lube
  • Silver Wire Solder (medium or hard preferred)
  • Flex shaft accessories for cleaning your ring (abrasive wheels, radial discs, etc)
  • Variety of cup burs for cleaning up your ball-ends
  • Protective eyewear
  • N95 or P95 face mask or particulate respirator 

 

Optional (Available at studio, but feel free to bring yours!)

  • Nylon mallet
  • Ring mandrel
  • Soldering 3rd hand
  • White out or stop-flow
