Pricing options include on-site lodging—choice of private King Suite or shared double Queen Suite—plus breakfast, lunch, snacks & light refreshments, open bar, and access to outdoor activities listed below.

 

Luxurious accomodations include a 20,000+ sqft lodge with 7 bedroom suites (3 King, 4 double queen), a commercial kitchen, fully stocked bar and light refreshments, full size gym, bicycles, a stocked fishing pond, game room, pool and hot tub. Includes access to private hiking/biking trails, horseback riding, and the Eagle River for fishing. Breakfast, lunch, and open bar are included.

 

Participants will make arrangements for dinners. Conveniently located just 5 minutes from I-70 in Eagle, there is a Costco and City Market within 10 minutes of the property, as well as dining and catering options such as Moe's BBQ and local pizzerias.

RETREAT WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

Monday: Participants will meet in Eagle at 10am

Monday, 11am–6pm & Tuesday, 9:30am–4:30pm: Maximizing the Creative Potential of Disc Cutters with Tim Sheriff. Discover the many ways to put your disc cutters to use—beyond cutting out simple and standard shapes. Disc cutters may be used to create custom components that are repeatable. In this in-depth exploration, Tim will cover cutter maintenance; creating templates for unique shapes; combining metals; how to make washers;  press fitting punch pieces together, mixing designs and metals without soldering; and seamless, interlocking and hollow rings, using materials other than metal, and so much more. Students will come away with tips and tricks that will open up a whole new world of design possibilities using disc cutters.

Tim Sheriff’s lifelong interest in rocks, metal, and fabrication has guided him through his 30+ year career at Swanstrom Jewelry Tools. As the Principle Designer of jewelry tools at Swanstrom—seven of have been granted patents. Tim’s passion for teaching, his love of tools, and vast experience as an artist make his classes truly inspiring.

 

Wednesday–Friday, 9:30am–5:30pm: Making Multiples with Jayne Redman: Take your designs from flat to three dimensional with this workshop from Jayne Redman. Learn the innovative design and assembly concepts that Jayne has developed over 40 plus years of metalsmithing. Jayne will teach you the principles behind centrally radiating forms, properly nested forms, spacing for slotted forms, faux hinge assembly, and tab construction. Learn how to make blanking (pancake) dies to quickly cut out the shapes you develop in class and get lost in the process of experimenting with forming and assembly. Speed up your production or incorporate identical shapes in one-of-a-kind pieces. 

 

Metalsmithing equipment will remain set-up to work on personal projects as desired throughout the week.

 

An afternoon BBQ prior to departure will include lawn games, music, and horseback riding. There is no checkout time for the rooms, so participants may depart at their leisure. 

 

MATERIALS KIT $140 is in addition to your tuition, payable directly to the instructor. Kit includes: Each kit contains: Tool Steel – 2x4x1/32″, 9x4x1/32″, 9x4x3/64″, Circular protractor, Thermal plastic , 4 ea Cast acrylic (3x3x0.25″), 3 ea Cast Acrylic (3x3x0.5″), 2 doz Saw Blades(Super Pike and Pike Platinum), Skip Tooth Saw blades, Separating Discs, Snap on Discs and mandrel, Radial Bristle Discs, Screw mandrel, #52 drill bit, Handouts.

 

A rotational bench pin and magnetic protractor are necessary to make blanking dies. Jayne will supply them for students to use while taking in-person classes. Jayne’s Bench Pin Dovetail System is compatible with GRS mounting plates. The Rotational Bench Pin is available for purchase in advance of the workshop.   • 20ga, 18ga, and 16ga metal sheet (silver, copper, and/or brass) for using with disc/die-cutters during Tim's workshop

  • 22ga Copper and/or brass sheet to test blanking dies created in Jayne's workshop
  • 5–6" deep Jeweler's Saw Frame (important to have a deep frame for sawing blanking dies)
